Upcoming Change to Flood Insurance Policies for Rye Residents

Since 2005, the Town of Rye has been a participating community of the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS).   CRS is a voluntary incentive program that rewards communities that conduct activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements by discounting the flood insurance premiums of their residents by a certain percentage.   A community earns CRS credit points, which are given for a wide range of floodplain management activities, and the total of these points determines the community’s class ranking and the residents’ premium percent discount. Rye is currently rated as a Class 9 community and residents with an NFIP flood insurance policy receive a five-percent discount.  Effective October 1, 2010, Rye’s rating will be changed to a Class 10 and residents will no longer receive a discount on their policies.  Residents can expect to see this change when they renew their current policy or purchase a new policy on or after October 1, 2010.  Any questions about Rye’s CRS status change can contact Susan Labrie at Town Hall, 964-9800 or SLabrie@town.rye.nh.us.   For general information about CRS, please go to:  http://www.fema.gov/business/nfip/crs.shtm#1.
