Rye Town Forest Information

Welcome to the Rye Town Forest.

This land is managed by the Rye Conservation Commission and protected by a Conservation Easement held by the Rockingham County Conservation District. The stated purpose of the easement is to keep the property in a natural, scenic, undeveloped and open condition. We hope you enjoy your visit and treat the land respectfully by observing a few necessary rules.

Passive recreational uses such as hiking, bird-watching, dog walking, biking and cross-country skiing are allowed on the trail system. Commercial and organized recreational activities are prohibited in the Rye Town Forest.

  • Dogs must be on a leash or under owner control at all times. Dogs cannot run free and out of sight. New Hampshire RSA 466:30-a. Free running dogs can disturb wildlife, wildlife nesting areas and travel routes so please keep your dog reasonably close.
  • Please remove your pet waste from the property.
  • All waste is carry in and carry out.
  • Private land abuts the town forest. Please do not trespass on posted land or allow your dog to trespass on private land.
  • Hunting is not allowed in the Rye Town Forest. However, hunting is allowed on adjacent public and private land. Please wear blaze orange – this goes for dogs as well.
  • During wet times, heavy rain, or mud season, please stay off the green and yellow trails. Portions of these trails can be very wet and muddy and are easily damaged by foot and particularly bike traffic. Biking is prohibited during wet periods.
  • Other prohibited uses include use of motorized vehicles, camping, target shooting and fires.
